Report: 71% jump in electric vehicle purchases projected for 2021

EVs are more in demand but the pandemic has taken a toll on the spread of charging stations, says analytics company Blastpoint.

Analytics company Blastpoint has released a study on electric vehicles, finding that there was a more than 30% increase in sales in 2020 as well as a projected 71% increase in 2021 despite significant reductions in general car usage and movement during the coronavirus pandemic. 

The 2021 EV Outlook Report also showed that there was a 25% increase in the number of public charging stations last year and minor increases in the use of electric vehicles for business

Passenger vehicle wholesales up 13.6%: SIAM

As per the data, passenger vehicle sales stood at 252,998 units in December 2020, compared to 222,728 units in December 2019

Domestic wholesales of passenger vehicles grew 13.6% year-on-year in December 2020 albeit on a lower base, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The industry body added that the market situation is dynamic and uncertain and the industry is facing a shortage of semiconductors, steel and shipping containers.

BMW, Ford back development of vehicle ‘birth certificates’ built on the blockchain

BMW, Ford, and major technology companies have indicated their support for a new blockchain project to assign “birth certificates” to vehicles. 

Announced on Tuesday, the initiative is focused on developing technologies able to track a car from its manufacture and beyond, including when the vehicle has changed hands, its maintenance history, and records of mileage and any past damage.

50 new electric vehicle charging stations coming to Tennessee highways

Keeping electric vehicles fueled up for long road trips is about to get easier in Tennessee, thanks to the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
