Shawn Bradley Paralyzed – Former NBA Player Hit by a Driver While on His Bike

You would think that it would be impossible for a driver to not see and avoid a 7-foot-6 man on a bicycle.

But that’s exactly what happened on January 20, when a driver in a car hit Shawn Bradley, one of the tallest basketball players in NBA history, while he was riding a bike just a block from his home in St. George, Utah. The resulting spinal cord injury paralyzed Bradley, according to a press release published on March 17 from his former team, the Dallas Mavericks.

Portland-based engineer Calvin Young has combined his love of space exploration and cycling to create a new bicycle tire that is airless, as strong as titanium, and will never go flat.

Former NBA player Bradley paralyzed in bicycle accident


Former Dallas Mavericks player Shawn Bradley was paralyzed two months ago after he was hit from behind by a vehicle while riding a bicycle, the American basketball club disclosed on Wednesday. 

“Bradley, the 7’6” former NBA player with the Dallas Mavericks, was struck from behind by an automobile while riding his bicycle a mere block from his home in St. George, Utah. The accident caused a traumatic spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed,” the Mavericks said in a statement.
