Buyers like Tesla, but not enough to pay double for one car

During the Great Recession, a few desperate automakers offered two cars for the price of one.

That’s a lot better deal than what Tesla gave some recent customers: one car for the price of two.

CNBC spoke with at least five customers who said Tesla not only double charged their bank accounts but also gave them a “frustrating runaround” when they tried to get refunded for the extra amount.

The overcharges ranged from $37,000 for a base Model 3 to $71,000 for a loaded Model Y, CNBC said.

A United States auto industry group is asking for government help as it warns that the global semiconductor shortage could result in 1.28 million fewer vehicles built this year and disrupt production for another six months.

The US Commerce Department should dedicate a portion of funding in a proposed bill to expand US semiconductor production to auto sector needs, the Alliance for Auto Innovation said in written responses to a government-initiated review.

The Petersen Automotive Museum has added eight new cars to its vault of historical vehicles. Although not a part of any current exhibitions, visitors can stroll through the vault to see the museum’s collection.

The eight cars are a 1959 Deutsch-Bonnet HBR5 Coupé, a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro art car, a 1964 Chevrolet Impala “Gypsy Rose,” a 1960 Plymouth XNR Replica, a 1982 Knight Industries Two Thousand “K.I.T.T.” car, a 1948 Bentley Mk VI “New Look” Saloon, a 1939 Packard Twelve Landaulet, and a 1974 Dale Mock-Up.

The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles has reopened its doors, offering car lovers a chance to get up close and personal with a vast array of legendary vehicles, including many rare and interesting GM models.

The Petersen Automotive Museum was forced to close last year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with exhibits going online via virtual tours posted to YouTube. Now, the museum is once again opening up for fans to visit in-person.

CAC Becomes Morocco’s Official SEAT Importer, Distributor

Rabat – Centrale Automobile Cherifienne (CAC), the importer and distributor of the Volkswagen Group automobiles in Morocco, has secured exclusive import rights for Seat vehicles.

According to local media, the new deal came into effect on April 1. On top of now owning the rights for Seat, the CAC group also holds import and distribution rights in Morocco for Audi, Bentley, Porsche, Skoda, and Volkswagen.
