Alliance For Automotive Innovation Releases Autonomous Vehicle Regulations

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation recently unveiled a four-year plan that outlines policy recommendations intended to foster autonomous vehicle testing and deployment in the U.S.

The new plan is framed as a “roadmap” with 14 specific policy recommendations in several key areas, including reform regulations for AV deployment at scale, harmonizing federal, state, and international policies, and fostering long-term objectives.

Specialized celebrates anniversary of Santa Cruz Experience Center with drone fly-through video

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (BRAIN) — Specialized Bicycle Components is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its Santa Cruz Experience Center with a “fly-through” drone video of the store and nearby trails.

The video (below) was produced by the same team responsible for a popular fly-through video of a Minneapolis bowling alley earlier this year. 

The Experience Center offers bike demos, fitting services and merchandise only available in store. It doesn’t sell bikes. Specialized also operates an experience center in Boulder, Colorado, which opened in 2018.

Dallas approves first transportation plan to improve how people travel in the city

Dallas elected officials have signed off on a transportation plan — a first in the city’s 180-year history — meant to improve how people travel over the next five years.

The City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved the Connect Dallas mobility plan, a strategy focused on all modes of transportation that has been under discussion since 2018. The plan, laid out in a nearly 100-page report, was created with input from the public and others.

Why Ford spending $185M to build EV battery lab in Michigan

DETROIT — Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it’s investing $185 million in a research lab for electric vehicle battery development as it moves closer to manufacturing its own cells.

Called Ford Ion Park, the 200,000-square-foot facility in southeast Michigan will have 150 employees and be capable of designing and manufacturing battery electrodes, cells and arrays at the pilot level. It’s planned to open by the end of 2022.

U.S. auto sales to more than double in April – J.D. Power, LMC Automotive

U.S. auto retail sales for April are expected to be the highest ever recorded for the month, helped by strong consumer demand and tighter inventories at dealerships, industry consultants J.D. Power and LMC Automotive said on Wednesday.

Retail sales for new vehicles in April are forecast to reach 1.3 million units, up 110.6% compared with last year, said the statement.
